Othello About Marcia Dixcy Jory

Production Notes

Produced in 1998 by Actors Theatre of Louisville. Jon Jory, Director. Ming Cho Lee, Set Designer. Robert Wierzel, Lighting Designer.
Not wanting to give romantic distance to the issues of racism and violence against women that fuel the action of OTHELLO, we set this production in the 1960’s, a contemporary time of violent conflict between Greeks and Turks on the island of Cypress. The women’s clothes were simplified to connect them with fashions current in the 1990’s as well. The camouflage combat uniforms were of French, Russian and South African origin, as we didn’t want them to look recognizably American. Delroy Lindo played the title role.
