Production Notes

Produced in 1994 by Actors Theatre of Louisville. Jon Jory, Director. Ming Cho Lee, Set Designer. Scott Zelinski, Lighting Designer. This production was set in early 1930’s Italy, during the rise of Fascism. The Capulets were portrayed as upper middle-class Fascist sympathizers. Tybalt was a “Black Shirt;” the Prince, a Fascist officer. The Montegues were positioned as aristocrats. Romeo’s friends included members of the intelligentsia: students and artists. The costumes for the masked ball were influenced by the designs of Erte. Neal Huffman and K.J. Sanchez played the title roles.
